| This site was originally set up to display my prose, but in the meantime it will be used to display pieces of the Greater Los Angeles/Orange County rock and roll history I have collected from my youth, with some general collectibles thrown in. I started using AnnexBreach as a possible band name in 1982. But, it was never accepted by other band members. So, now I made its scope a little bit bigger and gave it a new life some 20+ years later as a business, creative/writing vehicle and project. AnnexBreach: to be together but still remain independent and on your own. I think Ralph Waldo Emerson skillfully used this concept in his work "Self Reliance". Being one with nature and the world, yet taking care of your needs and seeing yourself as a complete whole within the whole. We are part of the whole, yet whole within each of us. Both Emerson and Einstein developed stronger appreciations for humanity during times of solitude. "Creativity is more important than Knowledge." - Einstein ...to think on your own, stray from the pack, and then come back to the pack with your new ideas. You will not get new ideas if staying with the pack- you will be more alike, so being alone and separate is important if we are all to benefit. Buddhism is a movement in thought, which stresses: be in the world while divorcing yourself from it on many levels. Like a room full of monks who are meditating and taking on individual enlightenment as a group. I have long admired the musical work of Jerry Cantrell, both with Alice in Chains and solo. He is a master at capturing his contemplation of things using a similar concept-- the struggle. A lot of the time yearning to be with someone or something, while enjoying the solitude and independence of being alone and your own person. "You know I don't need you, I just can't put you down...". The more you fight to try to be apart from something, the more that something consumes you and becomes a part of you. Individuals working independently as part of a whole effort, can make significant changes in the world. I guess at an early age a word I developed became the kaleidoscope from which I view the world. Thank you for supporting my project, it means a great deal to me to see this come alive again. |
