PUNK and NEW WAVE
106.7fm KROQ has been around for quite a while and doing music no one else was playing Punk or New Wave.

Rodney on the ROQ was a Sunday night program me and my friends would never miss and we taped it off the radio so we were hip to new music.  We played our tape recordings all week since we had no money to buy the records.  If Rodney played it...it was cool!

For a few years KROQ put out a free magazine: The Rag (1982) and The ROQ (1983).   The ad  above is circa 1978.
This is an oldie but goodie.....

Back when Flip's was just one of many non-trendy thrift stores along Melrose Boulevard, they catered to the New Wavers.

I think it is now one of the few stores left from the "Old" Melrose we all knew and loved...

Most of the Thrift Stores, like Thift Village would sell stuff for $1 or maybe less.....a far cry from the mini-Rodeo Drive it has now become...

My thriftstore habit started as a New Waver/Punk Rocker and has stayed with me ever since...
Yes, I am a big Go-Go's fan...got this picture from the 1978 BOMP magazine shown below.  THIS IS ONE OF THEIR ORIGINAL LINE-UPS...this was during the time they were doing a lot of drugs and just barely knew how to play....
Had to sneek this in...one of my prized possessions... An autograph from Mark Motherbaugh from DEVO.  Definately one of my all-time favourite bands and a major influence for me. Brainy..geeky...SEXY!!!! I got to meet him in  about 1987 when I covered his art opening at an art gallery in Fullerton for the college newspaper.  What a treat!!! I took a picture with him and have lost the picture..I'm still mad about losing it.
